Conraedt Ten Eyck, the ancestor, emigrated from Amsterdam, Holland, to America, in 1650 and located in New York city, where he owned what is now called Coenties Slip. He was interested in the shipping trade. He was also known as a farmer and operator of tanneries. He died in New York City, and his remains are supposed to have been buried beneath the old Dutch Reformed Church that stood that stood on Nasau Street, the present site of the New York Mutual Life Insurance Company. He married Maria Boele, who came with him from Amsterdam, Holland whom he had eleven children, among whom was Matthys.

Matthys Ten Eyck, youngest child of Conraed and Maria Ten Eyck was born in New York City, May 18, 1658. At an early age he removed to Old Hurley, Ulster County, New York, where he engaged in farming and to some extent, in the transportation business on the Hudson river. In 1679 he married Anneke Roosa, daughter of Captain Albert Heymans Roosa and Wyntje Ariens. He was a man of influence and prominence; was assessor of the town 1724, supervisor 1725, and filled an important place in the community. He was one of the founders of the Reformed Church of Hurley. He died in 1741, and a humble stone in the burying ground at Hurley Village marks his resting place. He married Jannikin, daughter of Aldert Roosa another pioneer settler of Hurley, October 22, 1679 and had Albert, Andries, Conraedt, Jacob, Abraham, Wyntie, Mariete, Grietie, Ragdt.
