• Divorced: Divorced, 20 Sep 1870. 2 When Monroe and Cordelia divorced, the three oldest girls stayed with their father and the four younger children went with their mother. Cordelia moved to Nebraska

Monroe Morris Stanley was supposed to stay with his father but he wanted to go with his mother. He hid in the mattresses on the loaded wagon hoping not to be discovered. Luck was against him and he was found. His father agreed to play chess with Monroe to determine whom he would go with. After several games Monroe senior decided that Monroe Morris had won. Monroe Morris got on the wagon with his mother and headed to Nebraska.

The cause of the divorce was due to the fact that Monre K. Stanley was an alcoholic.
