Evert Van Eps

  Noted events in his life were:

• Family Origin. ⁵²⁶ They own a house with a farm yard in the oude Lievelderstraat in Groenlo. On March 25, 1651 Baerendt Leferinch, Lubbert Van eps and Pieter Pietersz de With (guardian on behalf of their grandchildren, children of Dirck) give permission to Barent Schoemaker, "burger" of Groenlo to sell the house. As these three live in Amsterdam this happens at notary Henrick Schaef's office in Amsterdam (GAA records, NA 1300/47

The two marriage records of Dirck Evertss and the strong ties of local families obviously suggest a local origin of the family name Van Eps. In the province of Gelderland there is Epse, now part of Gorssel. This small place, along the route Zutphen - Deventer and close to the latter, should be considered as the origin of the family name. In his second marriage record Van Eps may be interpreted as a surname, In the first Evertss is a patronymn with his hometown Groll as a geographical addition.
