bullet  Noted events in his life were:

• Education. My education was very limited but I was able to develop a good business acumen.

• Occupation. I supported my family not only from what we produced on our farm but I also worked as a tanner.

• Moved, 1837. We moved to Evans City about twenty sevenmiles north of Pittsburg, where my father had purchased two hundred and twelve acres of land. My father also owned tracts of six hundred acres in Muddy Creek Township, Butler County and two hundred acres in Middlesex Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania. All of this land he passed on to his children. I was given the tract of two hundred and twelve acres. I later added seventy-eight acres, upon which my sons Solomon and Jacob lived. Only a small portion of this land had been cleared, the remainder having been covered with heavy timber. I cleared the trees and developed a good farm, erecting substantial buildings.

• faith. I was a member of the St. John's German Reformed church of Evans City

• Politically. In politics, I was originally a Democrat, but in 1864 I supported Abraham Lincoln and was afterward a staunch Republican.

• Biography. 165 JACOB STAMM, Sr., son of Daniel STAMM, was born in November, 1811, upon the old homestead, learned the tanner's trade, and followed that occupation for several years.
